Aug 27, 2023

Put away your fireworks and grills, the 4th of July sales are over. Most of the deals below have expired, so come check out the Wirecutter Deals page to see the best sales. We'll see you back here next year.

Every year, Americans gather on the Fourth of July to take in the fireworks, grill, and spend time with family and friends. Others camp, hit the beach, or get outside to enjoy parks and nature. No matter how you spend July 4, we have recommendations on how to save a little money this upcoming holiday. Here are seven deals to help you save this Independence Day weekend.

Solo Stove Bonfire Deal price: $210 with code STEVEO; street price: $300

Whether they are a camping connoisseur or simply love to lounge in the yard, everyone in the family is bound to enjoy cozying up alongside a nice fire. The Solo Stove Bonfire, one of our top picks for the best smokeless fire pits, is perfect for a cool evening, and this deal matches the lowest price we’ve seen on it. With a simple and minimalistic aesthetic, this fire pit has a double-walled design meant to intensify a fire's heat. Our testers loved the Solo Stove, which allows you to efficiently burn wood with less smoke. Just make sure to use code STEVEO in order to get the deal price.

MacSports Collapsible Folding Outdoor Utility Wagon Deal price: $85; street price: $100

Folding wagons can be useful tools for families, beachgoers, or really anybody who needs to tote a lot of gear from one place to another. After researching dozens of wagons and testing 10, we picked the MacSports Collapsible Folding Outdoor Utility Wagon as our favorite all-around wagon for basic toting. This versatile, light, easy-to-use wagon totes everything across different types of terrain and folds up to a compact, easy-to-carry size. This deal is the first notable discount we’ve seen in about a year.

Helly Hansen Moss Rain Coat - Men's Deal price: $83; street price: $100

Is clammy, wet weather cramping your style? Combat the rainy season with our men's commuter raincoat pick. With a deep hood, well-made zippers, and mid-thigh length, the reliable and well-constructed Helly Hansen Moss Rain Coat is great for keeping you dry when sitting at the bus stop or riding a bike. Its rubbery polyurethane material also repels water from hood to hem—though it's less breathable than other cotton, polyester, and nylon options. It's available in yellow and navy, but sizing is limited in the navy color.

Thule Quick Loop Strap 530 (2-Pack) Deal price: $23; street price: $30

These straps are a fast, easy, and affordable way to add load-stabilizing anchor points to your compact car. Secure them under the hood of your car (or the trunk if you don't have a hatchback) to create a set of anchor points to help stabilize whatever it is you’re carrying. If your small car will be seeing long or oversized loads (such as a kayak), this is another nice chance to save on a great addition to keep you safe on the road.

Anova Precision Cooker Nano Sous Vide Machine Deal price: $100; street price: $128

For hardcore foodies, the ability to perfectly control how meals are cooked is the ultimate goal. Able to slowly cook foods with unbeatable accuracy, sous vide circulators are handy tools that any home chef would love to have in their arsenal. Our top pick, the Anova Precision Cooker Nano is not only highly precise in its cooking, but it is affordable and impressively easy to use. With a simple touchscreen interface, the Nano lets you easily set the water temperature, or you can connect to your device via Bluetooth and use Anova's app to automatically set the time and temperature from preset recipes. Though this deal matches the lowest we’ve seen all year, we suspect prices might drop slightly lower during Prime Day.

KitchenAid 3.5 Cup Food Chopper Deal price: $35 with store pickup; street price: $50

From whipping up small batches of dips to dicing up an onion in the blink of an eye, a food processor can cut down on prep time and make it feel like you’ve got your own personal sous-chef. Although our budget pick is too small for large jobs like making bread dough or coleslaw, the KitchenAid 3.5 Cup Food Chopper is perfect for chopping small portions of vegetables or nuts—both tedious tasks to do by hand. Producing more consistent results than the other mini models we tested, it also has the convenience of a push-button-activated handled jar. Don't miss out on your chance to snag the KitchenAid 3.5 Cup Food Chopper, down to $35 with store pickup, as we don't often see discounts on this diminutive dicer.

REI Co-op Camp Chair (Kids’) Deal price: $20 for REI Members; street price: $40

Nature is dirty enough as it is, so keeping your child off the ground and mud-free is always a win-win situation. Our pick for the best camping chair for kids, the REI Co-op Camp Chair is a durable and affordable option that will withstand wear and tear from children. Unlike other cheap kids options, you can buy this chair for a 2-year-old and expect the child to outgrow it before it breaks. Featuring a convenient carry strap that allows for easy transportation, the Co-op Camp Chair also comes with a deep and functional cupholder. This REI member-exclusive ships free. It should be noted that there's a weight limit of about 150 pounds.

There's a slight possibility that you haven't seen the endless Prime Day marketing campaigns from Amazon (and our continuing coverage of early sales), but in case you missed it: Did you know that Prime Day is coming up on July 12 through July 13? Crazy, right? Jokes aside, Prime Day is so close that the Deals Team is already losing sleep. So if you’re looking to avoid the rush or can't hold your excitement back, check out the early Prime Day 2022 deals that are already on sale.

Fourth of July sales are seemingly everywhere, offering promises of summer savings on everything from camping gear to large appliances to electronics. But this Fourth of July sale window is different than last year—it precedes Prime Day and other mid-month sales we anticipate from Target, Best Buy, and Walmart. We’d recommend being selective, especially in certain product categories like electronics (audio, smart home) and personal grooming (electric razors, hair dryers, electric toothbrushes) that will almost definitely see better prices in less than two weeks. Even so, there are some good discounts to be found—we’ve captured some notable sitewide sales below.

You can find deals on everything from hiking boots to sleeping bags that Wirecutter has tested and recommended at REI's 4th of July Sale & Clearance event. For the very best deals on Wirecutter picks from this sale, check out our deals page.

Athleta, which carries some of Wirecutter's summer shorts and tights picks, is hosting its semiannual sale.

Similarly, Girlfriend Collective, which also offers shorts and tights we recommend, is having a sale, and while the prices aren't quite the best we’ve seen, they’re solid price drops from this sought-after brand.

Casper is hosting a sale, and while the mattress deals themselves are a little subpar, we’ve found great prices on an adjustable base we recommend and a memory-foam dog bed, that, while still pricey, is great for an arthritic furry friend.

Costco is hosting a mattress event that includes a great member price on the Leesa Hybrid. The members-only warehouse is also hosting a sale on appliances, but both promotions require you to be a member to get the best prices.
